National partnership environmental priorities program

While we are proud of our achievements, we understand environmental leadership goes well beyond goal setting. An important part of this leadership is exploring new ways to minimize our own environmental impact, as well as consistently challenging others in the industry to join us in making a difference. Challenge to Industry EPA is challenging industry to reduce the presence of 31 priority chemicals by 10 percent by Reducing the release of these chemicals in all life-cycle stages is a primary goal of the Agency's Resource Conservation Challenge RCC.

These chemicals are persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic. They contaminate the air, water, land, plants, and animals. They are among the most toxic materials on EPA's hazardous waste list. Reducing these 31 priority chemicals will better protect human health and the environment and conserve natural resources. NEPPS offers states and tribes the opportunity to set joint priorities, strategically leverage resources, and assess environmental conditions.

These negotiated agreements document the strategies to be used in meeting these goals; the roles and responsibilities of the State and EPA; and the measures to be used in assessing progress. In order to increase overall grant performance, states and tribes can choose to combine two or more environmental program grants into a single PPG. PPGs allow states and tribes to combine separate streams of funding from 19 eligible categorical grants into one multi-program grant, with a single budget and workplan.

PPGs allow states and tribes to direct resources to where they are needed most and to generate innovative solutions to environmental problems. PPGs allow recipients to meet cost-share requirements as a whole under a PPG rather than by individual grant program.
