By any definition of success, it was a great year, yet a dark cloud hangs over the mental health and substance use treatment industry as a whole. Before December was a reality, our country hit a grim milestone: , overdose deaths which almost no one is talking about it. That number does not include deaths from accidents, suicides, or health conditions associated with alcohol and drugs.

As I close the books on , I am proud of the work we have done but the impact of drugs and alcohol are increasing at an alarming rate. There is much more work to be done and I ask all in the helping professions to remember the size of the problem and how essential it is for us to remain on the firing line to help those that much of society would rather forget. Our US military Veterans and active personnel are part of the very fabric of our lives and our American history.

Throughout our year, we honor our active military personnel in all branches of service as well as those veterans who served so that we can enjoy our freedom in this great nation of ours.
